Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu emphasized the need for introspection within the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and their captain, Rishabh Pant. He pointed out that the bowlers are not dismissing Pant; rather, he is getting out on his own accord.

LSG's disappointing season continued with a third loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Pant had to retire hurt early in the innings after being struck on the elbow but returned later, managing to score only one run.

Pant's Ongoing Struggles

In his debut season with LSG, Pant, who was the most expensive IPL player at ₹27 crores, had a tough time, accumulating only 269 runs in 13 innings with an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133.16, including just one century and one fifty. This season, his performance has not improved significantly, with only 104 runs in five innings at an average of 26.00 and a strike rate of 122.35, with a top score of 68*.

Sidhu's Analysis on Team Dynamics

During a segment on Star Sports 'Cricket Live', Sidhu discussed LSG's reliance on their top order, which has not been performing well. He noted that while Pant is a talented player, he needs to spend more time at the crease. "There is a lot of soul-searching that needs to be done. Their issues have persisted, especially with the top order not firing. They have been heavily dependent on their top three, but the returns have not come. Players like Markram, Pooran, Marsh, and Pant have immense potential, but partnerships are lacking. Even a 50-run stand at the top has been rare. I do not think bowlers are getting Rishabh out; more often, he is getting himself out. If he gives himself time, he can turn it around. Currently, both their batting and bowling seem to be struggling," he stated.

Performance of LSG's Top Order

The LSG top order, including Mitchell Marsh (115 runs in five innings at an average of 23.00), Aiden Markram (120 runs at an average of 14.00), Pant (104 runs at an average of 26.00), and Nicholas Pooran (42 runs at an average of 8.40), has collectively managed just one fifty.

In the match, Virat Kohli, who revealed he was not at full fitness due to a sore knee, still managed to deliver a strong performance.
