Mustafizur Rahman Signs with Melbourne Renegades for BBL Debut
Mustafizur Rahman Joins Melbourne Renegades
Bangladesh's seasoned left-arm bowler, Mustafizur Rahman, is poised to make his Big Bash League (BBL) debut after signing with the Melbourne Renegades as a substitute for the injured Jason Behrendorff. At 31 years old, Mustafizur has played in 331 T20 matches globally, taking an impressive 423 wickets, yet he has not previously participated in the BBL. The Renegades secured his services following Behrendorff's season-ending shoulder injury, anticipating that Mustafizur will enhance their bowling lineup with his experience and skill, as noted on the Melbourne Renegades' official site.
Unfortunately, Mustafizur will not be available for the Renegades' opening match against the Perth Scorchers in Chennai due to his commitments in the ILT20. He expressed his enthusiasm about playing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where the Renegades are set to compete against the Sydney Sixers on January 1 and the Melbourne Stars on January 4. "I am eager to play in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades. Competing at the MCG, my home ground, will be special, and I look forward to joining my teammates and contributing my experience to the team," Mustafizur stated in a club announcement.
Coaching Staff and Team Outlook
New head coach of the Renegades, Luke Ronchi, expressed his excitement about adding Mustafizur to the roster, which already includes international players Jonny Bairstow and Michael Bracewell. "Mustafizur is a proven match-winner in T20 cricket worldwide. His knack for taking wickets during both the powerplay and at the end of matches is precisely what we were looking for in our bowling attack," Ronchi remarked.
This development follows the recent signing of Pakistan's fast bowler Haris Rauf with the Adelaide Strikers, marking the end of his long-term association with the Melbourne Stars.
