Mustafizur Rahman Joins Elite T20I Wicket-Takers List

Mustafizur Rahman has made headlines by becoming one of the top five wicket-takers in T20 internationals after his impressive performance against Sri Lanka. With this achievement, he surpassed Adil Rashid and played a crucial role in Bangladesh's victory. As the team prepares for upcoming series against Pakistan, Mustafizur has the opportunity to further enhance his wicket tally and potentially reach the milestone of 150 T20I wickets. This article delves into his journey and the current standings of leading wicket-takers in T20 cricket.

Mustafizur Rahman's Milestone Achievement

On July 16, Mustafizur Rahman achieved a significant milestone by becoming one of the top five wicket-takers in T20 internationals. This accomplishment came after he dismissed Jeffrey Vandersay during the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

With this wicket, Mustafizur briefly surpassed Adil Rashid, securing the fifth position on the all-time list after concluding his four-over spell with impressive figures of 1/17. His performance was crucial in Bangladesh's eight-wicket victory, which allowed them to clinch the three-match series with 21 balls remaining.

The seasoned bowler did not participate in the series opener but made a strong comeback in the second and third matches, stepping in for the absent Taskin Ahmed. In the second T20I, he was equally effective, conceding just 14 runs in three overs and taking a wicket on the last ball of his final over.

The Bangladeshi team is gearing up for a series of T20 matches, including two three-match series against Pakistan. Mustafizur has a prime opportunity to enhance his wicket tally and potentially surpass Shakib Al Hasan, who has announced his retirement from T20s and now focuses solely on ODIs. This could also bring him closer to the milestone of 150 T20I wickets.

As for Rashid, he will have to wait for his chance to reclaim his position. The England team’s next home series in T20s will be against South Africa, followed by a tour to New Zealand to face the BlackCaps, with both series consisting of three T20 matches each.
