Mumbai: In a thrilling encounter, the Mumbai Indians clinched a six-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders during their IPL match on Sunday, marking their first win in the opening round after 13 seasons.


Chasing a target of 221 runs, Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma set the tone with a remarkable 148-run partnership for the first wicket, achieving this in just 71 balls. Rickelton scored 81 runs off 43 deliveries, while Rohit contributed 78 runs from 38 balls, leading MI to a total of 224 for four in 19.1 overs, which is now a record chase for the team at their home ground.


Rickelton's explosive innings included four boundaries and eight sixes, whereas Rohit's performance featured six fours and six maximums.


Earlier in the match, KKR's captain Ajinkya Rahane played a solid innings, scoring a half-century, but it was the debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi who stole the spotlight with a quickfire 51 runs off just 29 balls, helping KKR reach 220 for four.


Rahane's innings consisted of 67 runs from 40 balls, supported by three fours and five sixes, while Raghuvanshi's innings was highlighted by six boundaries and two sixes.
