Mumbai Indians Post Target in IPL 2026 Match

In the eighth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Mumbai Indians have established a target of 163 runs for the Delhi Capitals. This match is taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. After winning the toss, the Delhi Capitals opted to field first, allowing the MI team, led by Suryakumar Yadav in the absence of Hardik Pandya due to illness, to bat.

Mukesh Kumar's Key Wickets Disrupt MI's Momentum

The opening pair of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma made a strong start, hitting several boundaries in the initial overs. However, Mukesh Kumar's second over proved pivotal as he dismissed Rickelton and then Tilak Varma with a remarkable 'caught and bowled' on the fourth ball. This over significantly slowed MI's scoring rate, compelling Suryakumar and Rohit to be more cautious in their approach.

Rohit and Suryakumar's Partnership

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav formed a crucial partnership, accumulating 53 runs for the third wicket off 40 balls. Unfortunately, Sharma was dismissed by Axar Patel in the 10th over after scoring 35 runs from 26 balls, which included six boundaries.

Sherfane Rutherford also fell quickly, losing his wicket in the 12th over when Mukesh Kumar took a spectacular catch off Vipraj Nigam's bowling, contributing only five runs from seven balls. Suryakumar Yadav reached his half-century but was dismissed LBW by Lungi Ngidi, finishing with 51 runs from 36 balls, featuring three fours and two sixes.

Late Contributions Enhance Mumbai's Total

Naman Dhir added valuable runs with a quick 28 off 21 balls before being caught out by Tristan Stubbs off T Natarajan's bowling. Mitchell Santner (18 not out) and Corbin Bosch (11 not out) also chipped in with a few boundaries, helping MI reach a competitive total of 162 runs. Mukesh Kumar was the standout bowler with two wickets, while Patel, Natarajan, Ngidi, and Nigam each claimed one wicket.
