MS Dhoni's IPL 2026 Comeback Remains Uncertain Amid Injury Concerns
MS Dhoni's Ongoing Injury Woes
The return of former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni to the IPL 2026 remains in doubt. He has been sidelined for a month due to a calf injury sustained just before CSK's opening match against the Rajasthan Royals on March 28.
Fans are increasingly worried as Dhoni has missed eight matches, raising questions about his recovery and potential return for the remainder of the season. There were hopes he might play against the Mumbai Indians after being seen practicing in the nets at Wankhede Stadium.
Continued Absence from Matches
Despite the optimism, Dhoni did not make the playing XI against the Mumbai Indians. He also missed the match against the Gujarat Titans at Chepauk, where CSK suffered an eight-wicket defeat, marking their fifth loss of the season.
Injury Setback Delays Return
Dhoni's comeback is now further delayed due to an additional injury setback during a warm-up session. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming disclosed that Dhoni aggravated his calf injury, complicating his return timeline.
Fleming noted, "He's pretty keen. The calf is a tough one, though. If he takes off and rips it again, then he will be gone." He added that the team is taking a cautious approach to avoid worsening the injury.
Rehabilitation Underway
Fleming emphasized that Dhoni is still a 'work in progress' and is undergoing rehabilitation with medical supervision, with no specific timeline for his return to competitive play.
"He is the guide on this one, and he's working hard with the physio and doing all the rehab, and we're just waiting for the word," Fleming stated.
Impact on CSK's Performance
Dhoni's absence has noticeably affected CSK's performance, as the team struggles with stability and leadership in crucial moments. With only six matches remaining in the league stage, it remains uncertain if Dhoni will be fit to play again this season.
