Morocco Faces Defeat Again: France Triumphs in World Cup Quarterfinals
France Continues Dominance Over Morocco
Foxborough (US): For the second consecutive World Cup, Morocco has been eliminated by France, this time with a score of 2-0 in the quarterfinals at Gillette Stadium. This follows their previous defeat by the same margin in the semifinals four years ago.
Morocco struggled to create offensive opportunities, managing only a single shot on target, which occurred in the 82nd minute while they were already two goals down.
This outcome mirrors their performance in Qatar, where Morocco made history as the first African nation to reach the semifinals.
Morocco's coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, expressed disappointment, stating, "We aimed to win today, but we faced a formidable opponent. While it's disappointing, we will continue to strive for future success."
The Atlas Lions' most promising chance came from midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, whose shot from the edge of the box was expertly saved by French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
France's coach, Didier Deschamps, noted, "Morocco lacked real forwards to exploit their speed on the flanks. We controlled possession, leaving them unable to threaten us."
Despite their challenges, Morocco showcased their talent, including 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi, who chose to represent Morocco despite having played for France's youth teams.
Ouahbi emphasized the team's broader representation, stating, "We embody more than just one nation; we represent the Moroccan people and many across Asia and Africa. We will continue to work towards winning titles in the future."
Morocco's best chance in the first half came just before halftime when Achraf Hakimi's free kick narrowly missed the right post.
Ouahbi remarked on the difficulties faced in the first half, acknowledging France's strong ball control and their ability to exploit weaknesses in Morocco's defense.
