Mohit Sharma's New Role with Chennai Super Kings

New Delhi: Former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma is poised to take on the role of bowling coach for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL 2027 season, marking his return to the franchise where he previously played for four seasons.

At 38 years old, Mohit is set to replace Eric Simmons, who held the position under the previous head coach, Stephen Fleming.

According to a source familiar with the situation, "CSK head coach Zaheer Khan has opted to bring Mohit Sharma on board as the bowling coach for IPL 2027. Further announcements regarding the rest of CSK's support staff are anticipated in the coming weeks."

Mohit has represented India in eight T20 matches and participated in the IPL as recently as the 2025 season before announcing his retirement from professional cricket in December of the previous year.

Having played 48 matches for CSK during his tenure, he also contributed in 10 matches during the now-defunct Champions League T20.

Mohit was part of a successful era for CSK and is now expected to contribute in a coaching capacity as the team embarks on a new journey under Zaheer's leadership.

CSK clinched their fifth IPL title in 2023, but they have struggled to reach the playoffs in the last three seasons, leading to the departure of long-time head coach Fleming.
