On Wednesday, Mohit Sharma, the right-arm fast bowler from India, officially announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. The 37-year-old cricketer shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram account to mark this significant moment.
'Innings Over, Gratitude Forever'
In his emotional post, Mohit expressed his appreciation for his fans and the sport itself. He stated, "Today, with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. My journey, from representing Haryana to donning the India jersey and playing in the IPL, has been a true blessing. A special thank you to the Haryana Cricket Association for being the foundation of my career. I am deeply grateful to Anirudh Sir, whose unwavering guidance and belief in me have shaped my path in ways words cannot convey. Thank you to the BCCI, my coaches, teammates, IPL franchises, support staff, and all my friends for their love and encouragement. A special mention to my wife, who has always managed my mood swings and supported me through everything. I look forward to contributing to the game in new ways. Thank you so much. International Career Highlights
Mohit Sharma made his debut for India against Zimbabwe in August 2013 and played his first T20I match against Australia in March 2014. His last ODI and T20I appearances were against South Africa in October 2015.
Throughout his international career, Mohit participated in 26 ODIs, taking 31 wickets with an average of 32.90 and an economy rate of 5.45, including one four-wicket haul. In T20Is, he claimed six wickets in eight matches at an average of 30.83.
Domestic and IPL Achievements
In First-Class cricket, Mohit secured 127 wickets across 44 matches, boasting an impressive average of 24.55, with four four-wicket hauls and seven five-wicket hauls. In List A cricket, he took 86 wickets in 78 games at an average of 32.79. In T20 cricket, he achieved 167 wickets in 172 matches, averaging 28.65.
IPL Career
Mohit played for four franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL): Chennai Super Kings (2013-2015, 2019), Punjab Kings (2016-2018), Delhi Capitals (2020), and Gujarat Titans (2023-2024).
He was a key bowler for Chennai Super Kings during his initial three seasons, taking 20 wickets in 15 innings in IPL 2013. He earned the purple cap in IPL 2014 for claiming 23 wickets in 16 matches.
In IPL 2023, Mohit had an outstanding season with the Gujarat Titans, helping his team reach the finals. He finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with 27 wickets in 14 innings at a strike rate of 9.81.
Overall, Mohit played 120 IPL matches, taking 134 wickets at an average of 26.21, including three four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.
