Mohammed Siraj Shines in GT's Dominant IPL Victory Over CSK
Siraj Reflects on Regaining Form and Confidence
Mohammed Siraj, the Gujarat Titans (GT) fast bowler, credited his recent success against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to his regained rhythm and confidence. After a standout performance, Siraj shared insights into his journey, noting that despite being sidelined for much of the T20 World Cup, he diligently practiced in the nets to enhance his skills. He acknowledged early struggles in the 2026 IPL but has since found his footing by concentrating on fundamental aspects like rhythm, yorkers, and effective bowling during various phases of the game. Siraj elaborated on his strategy against Sanju Samson on the red-soil pitch, emphasizing a straightforward approach aimed at inducing drives. He mentioned that maintaining pressure from one end allows bowlers like Kagiso Rabada to capitalize and take wickets from the other end. "The ball is coming out nicely. I was sitting out for most games in the World Cup, and I was working hard in the nets. I wasn't bowling well in the first few games, but I have got my rhythm back. I work on everything from my rhythm, yorkers and bowling at different phases. On a red soil pitch, I would always try to get Sanju driving. I don't try much and keep things simple, even if I can keep the pressure, then Rabada can pick the wickets," Siraj stated post-match.
GT's Bowlers Dominate in a Commanding Victory
In a remarkable display, the GT bowlers completely outperformed CSK, leading to a decisive 89-run victory in their IPL match on Thursday night in Ahmedabad. Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan each took three wickets, restricting the visitors to a mere 140 runs while chasing a target of 230. Siraj's exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Gill Emphasizes Importance of Win for Playoff Momentum
Shubman Gill, the captain of GT, highlighted the significance of their win over CSK in generating momentum as they approach the playoffs. He reflected on the team's earlier challenges this season, noting that they often came close in matches before finally finding the extra edge necessary to secure victories. Gill expressed contentment with his batting form but acknowledged a desire to contribute even more. He commended the team's improved fielding compared to their previous match and recognized that emotions can run high during intense games. "Very important going into the playoffs. Very happy to get the momentum. If I look at the games, even the first couple of games, we were getting close, and it was about adding that extra 5%, which we got in the Delhi game. Very happy with the way I am batting. Whenever you get out, you feel you could do more. Yes, the fielding was better than in the last game. When you are playing such an intense game, the emotions come out. After 12 games, we were at number one but lost the last two games and could not finish in the top two. Very grateful for the fans that turn up and support us," Gill remarked.
