Starc's Historic Performance in Perth

Perth: In a remarkable display, veteran fast bowler Mitchell Starc dismantled England's batting lineup during the first Test held in Perth, claiming three crucial wickets early on and marking his place as the 21st bowler, and the 13th Australian, to achieve 100 wickets in Ashes history.

Starc reached this impressive milestone in just 23 Tests, highlighting his prowess in this historic rivalry. He also matched the legendary Curtly Ambrose's tally of 405 Test wickets and is now closing in on Wasim Akram's record of 414, the highest for any left-arm fast bowler.

As he played his 100th Test, Starc's all-around contributions were evident, having scored 2,322 runs, which includes 11 half-centuries, with a personal best of 99.

Among the current players in both teams, only Nathan Lyon (110) and Starc have surpassed the 100-wicket mark in the Ashes.

For England, the standout bowlers in this series have been captain Ben Stokes and Mark Wood, each with 41 wickets.

Earlier in the match, Stokes won the toss and chose to bat first at Perth Stadium, opting for a four-pacer attack while leaving off-spinner Shoaib Bashir out of the 12-man squad.

Australia, on the other hand, awarded first Test caps to opening batsman Jake Weatherald and fast bowler Brendan Doggett, who earned his spot following an impressive Sheffield Shield performance where he took 13 wickets in two matches for South Australia.

The opening session was challenging for England, losing opener Zak Crawley for a duck in the very first over bowled by Starc. The left-arm pacer quickly followed up by dismissing Ben Duckett (21) and Joe Root (0), leaving the visitors struggling at 39/3. However, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook managed to stabilize the innings with a 55-run partnership for the fourth wicket until Cameron Green trapped Pope lbw for 46, leaving England at 105/4 at lunch, with Brook not out on 28 and Stokes on 4.
