Mitchell Starc Shines as Delhi Capitals Achieve Record IPL Chase
Starc's Impressive Comeback
Ian Bishop, the former West Indies fast bowler, has praised the bowling lineup of Delhi Capitals and highlighted Mitchell Starc's remarkable return to form. This recognition came after Starc's impactful performance in the IPL 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals, where Delhi secured a seven-wicket victory in Jaipur.
During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo's TimeOut show, Bishop expressed his initial concerns regarding Starc's rhythm following a lengthy absence from the game. "I was curious about the level of form he would bring after such an extended break," he remarked.
Starc's performance quickly alleviated those concerns as he delivered a powerful spell that kept the opposition under constant pressure. Making his first appearance in IPL 2026 after recovering from an injury, Starc claimed three wickets, playing a pivotal role in Delhi's significant win over the inaugural champions.
"He brought a lot of firepower to the game. It was satisfying to see. The last over conceded a few runs, but overall, his figures could have been even better," Bishop commented.
Praise for Delhi Capitals' Bowling Unit
Bishop commended the overall bowling strategy of Delhi Capitals, noting that the team greatly benefited from its pace attack. "From DC's perspective, this is a positive development. They needed that boost," he stated.
He also pointed out the potential for a balanced squad with the inclusion of overseas players in the bowling lineup. "With Lungi Ngidi and Starc set to play together in upcoming matches, it will create a strong combination with two overseas batters and two seam bowlers. I'm thrilled to see Mitch performing at this level," Bishop added.
DC's Historic Chase Secures Victory
Delhi Capitals achieved a record chase of 226 runs, marking their highest in IPL history, to defeat Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets. The chase was set up by a solid 110-run opening partnership between KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka, with Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma finishing the match with five balls to spare.
Earlier in the match, Riyan Parag scored 90 runs and Donovan Ferreira contributed an unbeaten 47, leading Rajasthan to a total of 225/6, while Mitchell Starc took three wickets.
This victory marked Delhi's fourth win of the season, placing them sixth in the standings, while Rajasthan remained in fourth position.
