Elena Mishra: A Chess Prodigy from Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a groundbreaking achievement, four-year-old Elena Mishra from Odisha has made history by becoming the youngest female chess player to earn an official FIDE rating.

At just 4 years, 6 months, and 16 days old, she has been assigned a Blitz rating of 1432, as per the latest rankings released by the international chess federation in September 2026.

Elena reached this milestone after participating in the Odisha State Blitz FIDE Rating Open Chess Championship 2026, held at Mother’s Public School.

Her outstanding performance in the tournament secured her a spot on the official FIDE rating list at such a tender age.

What makes her accomplishment even more remarkable is that she is the only female player born in 2022 or later to possess an official FIDE rating across any format.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his congratulations to Elena for her historic feat, noting that she has made a significant impact in the chess world at an age when most children are just starting to learn.

In a message shared on X, Majhi expressed, “Heartfelt congratulations to 4-year-old Elena Mishra of Odisha for making history as the youngest female player to hold an official FIDE rating.

While most children are taking their first steps into learning, Elena has already made her mark in chess.
