Meet the Young Stars Leading India U-19 Cricket Team to England!
Ayush Mhatre Takes the Helm as Captain
In a significant announcement, Ayush Mhatre from Mumbai has been appointed as the captain of the India U-19 cricket team for their upcoming tour of England, set to kick off on June 24. The squad also features 14-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
The tour will consist of a 50-over warm-up match, followed by a five-match Youth One-Day series and two Multi-Day matches against the England U19 team.
Suryavanshi's inclusion follows an impressive IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he made headlines as the youngest player to score a century in the league. His remarkable 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans last month was the second-fastest in IPL history.
Although he has yet to score a century in five first-class matches and six List A games for Bihar, Suryavanshi did achieve a hundred against Australia U19 in a Youth Test in Chennai last year.
Seventeen-year-old Mhatre has played nine first-class matches and seven List A games, accumulating 962 runs. He stepped in as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Chennai Super Kings captain, who was sidelined due to an elbow injury.
Abhigyan Kundu, a wicketkeeper-batter from Mumbai, will serve as Mhatre's vice-captain.
Another notable selection is Kerala's leg-spinner Mohammed Enaan, who excelled against Australia U19 last December, taking 16 wickets in two Youth Tests, making him the top wicket-taker of that series.
Punjab's off-spinner Anmoljeet Singh, who secured nine wickets in the same series, has also been included in the squad.
