New Delhi, Oct 7: Onler Kom, the former spouse of Olympic medalist boxer Mary Kom, has launched criminal defamation proceedings against her. He claims that she has made false and damaging statements about him on various public platforms.

Onler stated that he has officially filed the case, with the next court session set for November 19, 2026. He expressed his frustration, saying, “She is spreading numerous lies about me just to gain attention. I have initiated a criminal defamation suit against her.”

This legal action arises amidst ongoing tensions between the ex-couple. Mary Kom has previously accused Onler of misappropriating significant amounts of money from her boxing earnings. She also alleged that loans were taken out in her name, her property was mortgaged, and certain assets were transferred to Onler without her consent.

Onler has refuted these claims, asserting that while he respects Mary Kom's right to move forward after their divorce, he cannot accept being publicly maligned. “I no longer consume alcohol. I have young children, and she cannot continue to defame me. We are divorced; she is free to live her life as she wishes, but why tarnish my reputation?” he remarked.

He further noted that he has chosen not to disclose what he considers Mary Kom's personal flaws, despite the accusations directed at him. “Have I ever shared any of her shortcomings with anyone? No. She has her vices, but I have kept that private,” he stated.

Mary Kom and Onler tied the knot in 2005 and share four children. Onler played a supportive role during Mary’s boxing career, managing household responsibilities while she competed globally. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2023 after years of disagreements.
