Florence [Italy], June 22: Marc Marquez, riding for the Ducati Lenovo Team, has made history by becoming the first racer to achieve 100 career pole positions. He secured this remarkable feat by narrowly edging out his teammate Francesco Bagnaia during the qualifying session at the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy. Marquez set a new all-time lap record of 1:44.169, just 0.059 seconds faster than Bagnaia's best time, while Alex Marquez from BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP also impressed by qualifying for the front row, finishing within a tenth of pole.


In the initial qualifying round, Raul Fernandez from Trackhouse MotoGP set the early pace with a time of 1:45.214. He improved slightly on his second attempt, leading Fermin Aldeguer by 0.256 seconds. However, Aldeguer soon took the lead with a lap of 1:44.894, pushing Fernandez down to second place. Johann Zarco from CASTROL Honda LCR also improved his time, but Jack Miller from Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP managed to leapfrog Fernandez into second place by a mere 0.007 seconds. Fernandez fought back, reclaiming his position in a thrilling finish.


After a brief intermission, the MotoGP Q2 session commenced, showcasing the stunning Tuscan landscape. Marquez kicked off with a blistering lap of 1:44.500, setting a new record. Fabio Quartararo from Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP initially trailed him but was soon overtaken by Bagnaia, who came within 0.048 seconds of Marquez's time. Franco Morbidelli from Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team also made a strong showing, securing P3.


As the session progressed, Quartararo's performance surged, with an impressive third sector that momentarily placed him in provisional pole position. However, Bagnaia responded with a stunning lap of 1:44.228, taking the lead before Marquez reclaimed the top spot with a time just 0.059 seconds faster. With only a minute remaining, Vinales attempted to improve his position but ultimately finished P5.


Marquez's achievement of his 100th career pole position is a significant milestone in his illustrious career. The front row will feature Bagnaia and Alex Marquez, separated by just 0.083 seconds, setting the stage for an exciting Tissot Sprint and Grand Prix.


Quartaro leads Row 2, followed by Vinales and Morbidelli, while Fabio Di Giannantonio from Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team secured P7. Pedro Acosta from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing will start from P8, with Alex Rins from Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP in P9. Row 4 includes Marco Bezzecchi from Aprilia Racing, Fernandez, and Aldeguer.
