Mansukh Mandaviya Engages with Scotland's First Minister Ahead of Commonwealth Games 2026

New Delhi, July 22: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, recently met with Scotland's First Minister, John Swinney, during an official reception in Glasgow. This meeting took place just before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games 2026, where Mandaviya expressed his enthusiasm for both the upcoming Games in Scotland and India's role as the host for the centennial edition in 2030.
While in Glasgow, Mandaviya commended the local organizing team for their exceptional hospitality as they finalize preparations for the prestigious multi-sport event.
"I attended the reception hosted by First Minister John Swinney and am thankful for the warm welcome from the team organizing the CWG 2026 in the beautiful city of Glasgow," Mandaviya shared on X.
The Glasgow 2026 Games will feature ten sports, showcasing elite athletes, including numerous Olympic and Paralympic champions, as well as current Commonwealth gold medalists, competing over an 11-day period.
Additionally, the sports minister had a meeting with Donald Rukare, the president of Commonwealth Sport, where they discussed the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Games, which will take place in India in 2030.
"It was a pleasure to meet Donald Rukare, the president of Commonwealth Sport. There is significant excitement within the Commonwealth community regarding the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in India in 2030," he noted.
India was officially granted the hosting rights for the historic 2030 centenary edition during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held last year, with Ahmedabad, Gujarat, designated as the primary host city. This will be India's second time hosting the event, following the 2010 edition in New Delhi.
Approximately 15-17 sports are expected to be included in the 2030 Games. The sports under consideration are: Archery, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball, 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket T20, Cycling, Diving, Hockey, Judo, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Squash, Triathlon, Para Triathlon, and Wrestling. The host country may also propose up to two additional new or traditional sports.
