Manav Suthar Celebrates First India Call-Up with Joy and Pride
A Dream Come True for Manav Suthar
Bowling all-rounder Manav Suthar expressed that receiving his first call-up to represent India in the one-off Test against Afghanistan is the highlight of his career, describing it as the "best feeling of my life."
India's Test Match Against Afghanistan
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India is competing against Afghanistan in a one-off Test match in New Chandigarh. Although this match does not contribute to the ICC World Test Championship, it has provided an opportunity for promising domestic players like Suthar, Harsh Dubey, and Gurnoor Brar to earn their first caps due to their outstanding performances in domestic cricket. Suthar made an impressive debut, taking three wickets, dismissing Afghanistan's Abdul Malik, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Afsar Zazai, as the visitors concluded Day 2 at 113/5, trailing by 451 runs. Notably, Suthar achieved his first wicket in his very first over, joining a select group of Indian players to do so on their debut.
An Emotional Moment
In an interview with JioStar, Suthar recounted the emotional moment he learned about his selection from his sister, who informed him after the squad announcement. He shared that his family was filled with joy, and he viewed representing India as a culmination of years of dedication and hard work. "I was in my room when my sister called me. She told me that my name was announced for the Indian team. I asked her if it was official, and she confirmed it. Everyone was emotional when I got the call. My parents couldn't believe it. It's hard to put into words; it's the biggest feeling. After years of hard work, getting selected for India is the best feeling of my life," he expressed.
Impressive Domestic Performance
Suthar's selection is backed by a strong record in domestic cricket. The all-rounder from Rajasthan has taken 129 wickets in 29 first-class matches, boasting an average of 25.76, with best figures of 8/33, including six five-wicket hauls and three ten-wicket hauls. He has accumulated 945 runs in 48 innings at an average of 25.54, featuring a century and six fifties, with a top score of 120. This season, while playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT), he secured two wickets in four matches at an average of 34.00.
Inspirations in Cricket
Suthar cited former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin as his primary cricketing inspirations. He admires their versatility and ability to adapt across different formats. "Yuvraj Singh is my favorite cricketer, and I also have great respect for R Ashwin. Their bowling variety and adaptability in Test cricket, ODIs, and T20s inspire me greatly. They are my role models," he stated.
Commendation for Captain Shubman Gill
Suthar praised Shubman Gill, the current captain of the Indian Test and ODI teams, for his strong game awareness and tactical insight. "Shubman bhai has worked hard since childhood. His captaincy today is a testament to that effort. He is an excellent captain who reads the game well and understands the situation, pitch, and matchups. He knows the right areas to bowl and the pace to use for each bowler. He is a smart captain who trusts his players, instilling confidence and allowing them to perform their roles effectively. His clarity of thought makes it easy for us on the field, allowing us to focus on executing our plans," Suthar remarked.
