Lucknow Super Giants Face Another Defeat

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) experienced yet another setback in IPL 2026, falling short in a nail-biting Super Over against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday night. This loss marks their eighth consecutive defeat at home, tying them with the Deccan Chargers for the second-most home losses in IPL history. The record for the most consecutive home defeats is held by the Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), who lost nine straight matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium between the 2013 and 2015 seasons.

LSG's Struggles Continue

This defeat also signifies LSG's fifth consecutive loss, establishing the longest losing streak for the franchise in IPL history. Currently, they sit at the bottom of the points table, having secured only two victories out of eight matches. The team, led by Rishabh Pant, was on the verge of claiming their third win but faltered during the Super Over. Nicholas Pooran, who has been struggling with form, was sent in to bat alongside Aiden Markram. Pooran was dismissed on the first ball by Sunil Narine, while Pant managed a single on the second ball. Markram, attempting a boundary, lost his wicket on the next delivery, setting a target of just two runs for KKR, which they achieved on the first ball of Prince Yadav's over, thanks to Rinku Singh's boundary.

Chasing Woes for Lucknow

LSG's record while chasing targets remains troubling, with 18 losses in 30 matches, resulting in a win percentage of only 40%. In contrast, their performance while batting first is significantly better, boasting a win percentage of 57.14%, having won 20 out of 36 matches.

Rinku Singh Shines with All-Round Performance

Rinku Singh was instrumental for KKR, contributing significantly to their total of 155 runs after being asked to bat first. Mohsin Khan's impressive five-wicket haul kept KKR's scoring in check during the middle overs. Rinku scored an unbeaten 83 runs off 51 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, helping his team surpass the 150-run mark.

In addition to his batting, Rinku showcased his fielding skills by taking four catches, becoming the fourth player in IPL history to achieve both four catches and score over 50 runs in a single match. Jacques Kallis was the first to accomplish this for KKR against the Deccan Chargers in IPL 2011, followed by Riyan Parag (RR) against RCB in IPL 2022, and Daryl Mitchell, who took five catches and scored 52 runs against SRH in the 2024 season.

This marks the second occasion Rinku Singh has taken four catches for KKR, with only three players in KKR's history achieving this feat in an IPL match, and Rinku has done it twice.
