Loughran Park Unveils Upgraded Tennis and Pickleball Facilities
Revamped Courts Open to Enthusiasts
This week, the newly upgraded tennis and pickleball courts at Loughran Park in the United States have officially reopened, much to the delight of the community. After several months of renovations aimed at accommodating the growing demand for recreational spaces, the project was completed in November 2025 but faced delays due to seasonal weather conditions.
City officials reported that the redevelopment involved tearing down older facilities to create a modern complex featuring two tennis courts and eight dedicated pickleball courts. The opening was postponed until weather conditions improved following the first snowfall of the season.
Mayor Steven Noble emphasized that these enhancements were a response to the surging interest in pickleball, which has rapidly gained popularity across the nation. He stated, “The community has been eager for more pickleball courts, and we are excited to unveil the renovated court complex at Loughran Park.”
The project also prioritized sustainability and community benefits. Improvements included enhanced subgrade stability for durability, green infrastructure for better drainage, and landscaping features like a bioretention swale. To address noise concerns from local residents, sound-mitigation strategies were implemented, including barriers and a layout that separates the pickleball courts from the tennis courts.
Lynsey Timbrouck, the City Parks and Recreation Director, noted the importance of this reopening for the local community, stating, “There has been significant anticipation for these upgrades, and we are thrilled to finally share these fantastic amenities with everyone.”
The reopening coincides with a notable surge in pickleball's popularity across the United States, which has sparked both excitement and debate. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, the number of players jumped from 3.5 million in 2019 to 24.3 million in 2025, indicating a remarkable increase in interest. While cities like Houston have emerged as major centers with numerous courts, there are ongoing discussions about whether the sport's rapid growth has peaked or is transitioning into a new phase. In this context, the Loughran Park project highlights how infrastructure development is keeping pace with demand, reinforcing pickleball's significance as not just a recreational pursuit but also a vital element of community engagement.
