Buenos Aires [Argentina], June 18: Jorge Messi, the father of football superstar Lionel Messi, is currently facing health challenges and is receiving medical attention. His family reported on Thursday that he is recovering and making positive progress.


During Argentina's opening match of the FIFA World Cup against Algeria on Wednesday, Lionel Messi was visibly emotional after scoring, later revealing that his tears were due to personal issues unrelated to the game.


Messi expressed gratitude towards his teammates and the entire delegation for their unwavering support during this tough time, stating, "I had some difficult, complicated days. I am grateful to the whole delegation, to all my teammates, because they were always by my side, as always, giving me a lot of strength."


In a statement shared by the family, it was confirmed that Jorge Messi is under medical supervision and is recovering well. The family emphasized the need for privacy regarding this sensitive matter.


The statement, as reported by a media outlet, read, "The Messi family informs that Jorge Messi is currently going through a health-related situation. At this time, he is under medical supervision, recovering and progressing favourably within the condition he is experiencing."


They also expressed their discomfort regarding the rumors and speculation surrounding Jorge's health, urging the public to respect their privacy. "The family wishes to clarify that only his closest relatives have real and accurate information regarding Jorge's condition," the statement added.


They called for responsibility and humanity, stating, "A person's health and the peace of mind of those around them should not be the subject of speculation or irresponsible media interest. On June 16, Messi achieved his first FIFA World Cup hat-trick, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of his World Cup debut, tying Miroslav Klose for the most goals scored in World Cup history with 16. He also celebrated his 200th cap for Argentina.
