Arlington: Lionel Messi has etched his name in World Cup history by becoming the first player to net goals in seven consecutive matches. This remarkable feat was achieved during Argentina's final group stage match against Jordan, where he also set a new personal record with his 19th World Cup goal.

Messi's goal came from a free kick in the 80th minute, following a foul just outside the penalty area. He executed a low shot that evaded two defenders and found the left corner of the net.

This marked his 72nd career free kick goal and the 12th for his national team. With a total of 123 international goals, Messi now ranks second in all-time scoring, trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 145 goals in 202 appearances.

At 39 years old, Messi joins an elite group of players, including France's Just Fontaine and Brazil's Jairzinho, who have previously scored in six consecutive World Cup matches.

In this match, Messi did not start, as Argentina had already secured their position as Group J winners, while Jordan was out of contention for the knockout stage. He was substituted in the 60th minute for Lautaro Martinez, who had converted a penalty in the first half.
