Lamine Yamal Leads Spain to FIFA World Cup 2026 Final After Victory Over France
Spain's Young Star Eyes World Cup Glory
Lamine Yamal, the 19-year-old prodigy from Spain, is already focused on the FIFA World Cup 2026 final after La Roja's impressive 2-0 win against France in the semi-finals. He took to social media to express his excitement, stating that the team is prepared for the championship match in New York.
Following Spain's advancement to their second FIFA World Cup final, Yamal posted images from the semi-final on Instagram, captioning it with 'nuevayol vamos por ti,' which translates to 'New York, we're coming for you.'
Historic Achievement for Teenagers
Yamal played a pivotal role in Spain's success at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, where he was one of two teenagers, alongside Pau Cubarsi, to start for the team. This marked a historic moment as it was the first instance in FIFA World Cup history where two teenagers started for the same team in a semi-final match.
Spain Dominates France
Spain showcased a dominant performance against France, securing their place in the World Cup final for the first time since their victory in 2010.
Yamal made a significant contribution early in the match by skillfully intercepting the ball from Lucas Digne and earning a penalty after being fouled in the box. Mikel Oyarzabal successfully converted the penalty in the 22nd minute, giving Spain the lead.
France struggled to regain control as Spain maintained possession. In the second half, Pedro Porro linked up with Dani Olmo, finishing calmly past Mike Maignan to extend La Roja's lead.
Yamal nearly scored a third goal shortly after, but it was disallowed for a narrow offside.
Although France posed a brief threat through Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni, Spain's solid defense ensured they achieved their sixth clean sheet in seven tournament matches.
Path to the Final
This victory propels Spain into only their second World Cup final, ending a lengthy wait since their triumph in South Africa 16 years ago.
Spain is set to head to New York New Jersey Stadium for the final on Sunday, where they will compete against the winner of the upcoming semi-final between defending champions Argentina and England, which will take place in Atlanta.
With his celebratory post looking ahead to the final, Yamal emphasized that Spain's journey is not yet complete as they aim for a second FIFA World Cup title.
