Lamine Yamal Achieves Historic Milestone

In a remarkable feat, Barcelona's Lamine Yamal has overtaken Kylian Mbappé to become the highest-scoring teenager in UEFA Champions League history. This achievement came during Barcelona's 3-0 win against Aston Villa on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old winger took advantage of a defensive blunder from Villa, scoring in the seventh minute at Spotify Camp Nou. His goal marked his 14th in the competition, according to reports.

Raphinha added to Barcelona's lead with two goals in the second half, ensuring a comfortable victory and handing Aston Villa their first loss in the Champions League group stage. This win also temporarily elevated Barcelona to second place in the standings. Yamal's record surpasses that of Real Madrid's Mbappé, who previously held the record with 13 Champions League goals as a teenager. Despite this setback, Mbappé remains one of the tournament's top scorers with a total of 72 goals.

Yamal's Record-Breaking Journey

The young Barcelona star achieved this milestone in just 37 matches, further establishing his name in Champions League history. He is also the youngest player to start a match in the competition's main stage, having made his debut against Porto at just 16 years and 83 days old. Yamal holds multiple records, including being the youngest player to score and assist in a Champions League match, as well as the youngest to score in a semi-final. He also set records for the most goals scored before turning 18 (five) and 19 (11).

Current Season Highlights

Despite his achievements, Yamal is no longer the youngest player to participate in the Champions League knockout stages, a record now held by Max Dowman. This season has been particularly impressive for Yamal, who recently ranked third in the Ballon d'Or standings, trailing only Harry Kane and Mbappé. In 15 matches across all competitions this season, he has netted 13 goals and provided 11 assists, showcasing his significant impact on Hansi Flick's squad.
