Lakshya Sen Triumphs at Australian Open 2025

Indian badminton sensation Lakshya Sen celebrated a significant victory at the Australian Open 2025 held in Sydney on Sunday. He expressed his joy at concluding the season positively after facing numerous challenges throughout the year. Sen emerged as the champion in the men's singles category, decisively defeating Japan's Yushi Tanaka with scores of 21-15, 21-11 in a final that lasted only 38 minutes. His victory earned him a prize of USD 475,000.


Reflecting on a Challenging Season

During a press conference, as reported by the Badminton Association of India (BAI), Sen shared insights about his rollercoaster journey in the 2025 BWF World Tour. He expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season after finishing on a high note. "This season had its share of ups and downs, including some injuries early on, but I maintained my dedication throughout. I’m thrilled to wrap up the season positively and am eager for what lies ahead," Lakshya stated.


He noted that he sensed victory during the second set but remained focused, avoiding complacency. "I had a significant lead in the second set, but I aimed to stay mentally engaged and not relax too much. I focused on taking it one point at a time," he explained.


"Starting strong and maintaining momentum was crucial in the final set, especially since the first set was closely contested. I secured a good lead and managed to finish the match effectively," Lakshya concluded.


Impressive Display in the Final

In the final match against Tanaka, who had previously secured two Super 300 titles this year at the Orleans Masters and the US Open, Lakshya showcased exceptional reflexes, control, and strategic placement. He dominated the match, effortlessly outmaneuvering the 26-year-old Tanaka to claim the Australian Open 2025 title.


With this victory, Sen became the second Indian player to win a title in the current BWF World Tour, following Ayush Shetty, who achieved his first Super 300 win at the US Open.
