Chawla Takes Early Lead with Flawless 65

In an impressive display, 17-year-old Krish Chawla from Chandigarh shot a remarkable bogey-free five-under 65 during the first round of the IGU Telangana Amateur Golf Championship at the Hyderabad Golf Club on Tuesday.

Chawla's performance placed him one stroke ahead of competitors Shashank Sachin, Ranveer Mitroo, and Gulfam Hussain, who are tied for second. Shamit Dakhane follows closely in fifth place, while Vinamra Anand and Chaitanya Padey share sixth at two-under 68. Last week's champion, Ribhav Verma, faced challenges, finishing tied for 16th at one-over 71.

Chawla's Blemish-Free Round

Chawla, competing in his first full season on the amateur circuit, showcased excellent skills off the tee and with his approach shots, achieving a flawless 65. He successfully hit all 18 greens in regulation, although he experienced four lip-outs that could have extended his lead.

Starting strong, Chawla secured birdies on the par-3 holes, sinking a 20-footer on the third and landing his 5-iron tee shot just four feet from the hole on the fourth. Despite narrowly missing birdies on the fifth and sixth due to lip-outs, he regained momentum with a birdie on the eighth, turning at three-under. After missing opportunities on the 10th and 11th, he nailed the pin on the 12th with a precise 9-iron shot and added another birdie on the par-3 16th.

Mitroo in Close Pursuit

Mitroo, who began his round on the 10th tee, had an explosive front nine with four birdies. However, he seemed to lose some momentum in the latter half, dropping a shot on the fourth but quickly recovered with a birdie on the fifth, keeping the pressure on Chawla.
