Mumbai: In a thrilling encounter, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to score 220 runs for the loss of 4 wickets against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, thanks to significant contributions from captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 67 runs, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who added 51 runs to the total.

The pitch proved to be favorable for batting, but MI's bowlers struggled to make an impact during their first match of the season. Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler for Mumbai, taking 3 wickets for 39 runs, while both Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah failed to claim any wickets.

Rahane's innings began with a beautifully timed six off Boult, setting the tone for KKR's innings. The team gained momentum when Hardik Pandya had a poor over, conceding 26 runs, which included two sixes from Rahane.

Finn Allen also contributed with a quick 37 runs off just 17 balls, hitting two sixes and a four in a single over against debutant Allah Ghazanfar.

Despite losing Finn to Thakur early on, KKR reached 78 runs by the end of the powerplay, and they crossed the 100-run mark in the eighth over. Rahane looked poised for a century, but Thakur's wickets disrupted KKR's rhythm.

Thakur's clever bowling led to the dismissal of Cameron Green and later Rahane, who was caught by Rohit Sharma after a well-played innings that included five sixes and three fours.

Raghuvanshi, who initially struggled, found his footing towards the end of his innings, scoring 51 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed by Pandya.
