Kolkata Knight Riders Struggling in IPL 2026

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have had a disappointing start in IPL 2026, currently sitting in 8th place on the points table with only 1 point. After three matches, they have suffered two losses, and their only point came from a rain-affected game against the Punjab Kings. KKR is now gearing up to face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 9, with hopes of turning their fortunes around. A significant boost for the team comes with the news regarding Cameron Green.

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Cameron Green is expected to bowl against LSG on Thursday. Cricket Australia had previously indicated that Green would require about 10 days before he could bowl again. With that timeframe now surpassed, his chances of participating have greatly improved. However, Green's performance in IPL 2026 has been underwhelming, having scored only 24 runs across three matches and not yet bowled. KKR acquired him for a hefty sum of Rs 25 crore during the IPL 2025 auction.

Matheesha Pathirana's Anticipated Return

In another development, sources close to Matheesha Pathirana suggest that he may join the KKR squad in India by mid-April. Pathirana sustained a calf injury during the T20 World Cup 2026 match against Australia. Although he has resumed bowling in practice sessions, he is still awaiting a No Objection Certificate from Sri Lanka Cricket. A fitness assessment is scheduled for next week, as indicated in the report. Recently, Pathirana's manager, Amila Kalugalage, hinted at the pacer's potential return to the IPL by sharing a video of him bowling.
