SBI Green Marathon Season 6 Takes Over Kolkata

The vibrant city of Kolkata, known as the cultural heart of India, recently hosted the SBI Green Marathon Season 6, following its successful runs in various cities including Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and Guwahati. The NKDA Football Ground in New Town buzzed with excitement as runners, families, fitness lovers, and advocates for sustainability gathered at dawn to participate in this eco-friendly event, as highlighted in a press release from SBI.


Set against the backdrop of Kolkata's evolving green spaces and its rich heritage, the marathon embodied the theme of "Run for a Greener India." The city's strong tradition of community involvement, along with an increasing emphasis on health and environmental stewardship, made the event particularly memorable.


More than 5,000 participants, including enthusiastic runners, students, families, running clubs, and representatives from the Indian Army and Defence Forces, united with a common goal: to run not only for personal achievements but also for a cleaner and healthier future.


The marathon was officially launched by esteemed dignitaries, including Niraj Kumar Panda, Chief General Manager of Kolkata Circle, and several other General Managers from SBI, reinforcing the bank's commitment to promoting sustainability and community well-being.


In line with its eco-friendly ethos, the SBI Green Marathon provided a sustainable race experience:


– Participants received organic T-shirts, plantable bibs, and reusable cloth goodie bags to encourage low-waste habits.


– A unique hydration initiative featuring black alkaline water supported runners' endurance and recovery.


– Waste Management Partner Skrap facilitated waste segregation, recycling, and responsible disposal, with a detailed sustainability report to follow.


The event's energy was amplified by Mirchi RJ Neel and RJ Mohar, whose lively commentary and engaging interactions kept the crowd motivated throughout the marathon.


With distances ranging from 5K to 10K and a half marathon, the AIMS-certified runs brought together Kolkata's diverse running community, including defense personnel, seasoned marathoners, fitness enthusiasts, students, and newcomers, all united in their mission for a greener India.


The routes through New Town offered a refreshing mix of open spaces, crisp morning air, and a harmonious blend of nature and urban life, perfectly reflecting Kolkata's commitment to progress and sustainability.


With each step taken, Kolkata demonstrated its dedication to environmental consciousness, holistic fitness, and community engagement. From the inspiring start to the eco-friendly celebrations post-run, the city celebrated another significant milestone in the marathon's journey across 17 cities.
