During an appearance on The Great Indian Cricket Show aired on Doordarshan, Jaffer shared intriguing insights from his experience with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Punjab Kings. Reflecting on his coaching journey alongside cricket legends like Chris Gayle and KL Rahul, he discussed the challenges of managing high-profile players, noting that while Rahul possesses remarkable raw talent, it is the mental aspect that distinguishes great players from legends.

Jaffer described Rahul as a technically proficient and composed player across all formats, asserting that he has the potential to score significantly more runs for both India and his franchise. He remarked, "KL is an exceptional player who excels in all three formats. He is technically adept, calm, and level-headed. Although he is still an active player, I feel he has not fully realized his potential given his skill set. He can achieve many more runs for India and his franchise. Before Punjab acquired him, he had a long stint with RCB, and during the auction, he was not picked until Punjab came in at the last moment. For a player of his caliber, I believe his ego was slightly bruised by being chosen last. However, he channeled that energy and went on to score 500 to 600 runs for Punjab that season.
