KKR Triumphs Over LSG in Thrilling Super Over Showdown
KKR Secures Playoff Spot with Super Over Victory
In a gripping IPL 2026 encounter at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a Super Over, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Former cricketer Irfan Pathan praised KKR's spinner Sunil Narine for his exceptional performance under pressure during the Super Over.
Narine's Impressive Super Over Performance
At 37 years old, Narine was entrusted with bowling the Super Over after both teams finished their innings tied at 155 runs. He made an immediate impact by dismissing Nicholas Pooran with his first ball and followed up by taking out Aiden Markram on his third delivery, allowing LSG to score just one run. Rinku Singh then secured the win for KKR with a boundary, marking their second victory in eight matches this season.
Pathan Highlights Narine's Skill and Calmness
During a discussion on JioHotstar's 'Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live', Pathan emphasized Narine's poise and skill. He remarked, "The quality of the delivery to dismiss Pooran and the calmness with which Narine executed it were remarkable. Consistently performing under pressure, especially in a Super Over, is commendable. Despite facing challenges, he always finds a way to bounce back stronger."
"It's rare to see a spinner called upon in such critical moments, but Narine stands out. His ability to maintain composure amidst pressure allows him to focus on the details, and he once again proved his worth when it mattered most," he added.
Rinku Singh's Stellar Performance
Earlier in the match, KKR faced a tough challenge as Mohsin Khan delivered a stunning five-wicket haul (5/23) that disrupted their top order. However, Rinku Singh's remarkable unbeaten 83 runs off 51 balls, which included seven fours and five sixes, ignited a comeback. His explosive finish, featuring four consecutive sixes in the final over, propelled KKR to a total of 155/7.
In response, KKR's bowlers maintained pressure on LSG throughout the innings, but a dramatic last-ball strike from Shami forced the match into a tense Super Over.
Before his outstanding Super Over performance, Narine concluded his four overs in the match with figures of 4-0-23-1.
