KKR Bowlers Shine as Rajasthan Royals Struggle in IPL Clash
KKR's Bowling Dominance
In a thrilling IPL match on Sunday in Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers Varun Chakravarthy and Kartik delivered impressive performances, each taking three wickets. This effort limited Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a total of 155 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Currently seeking their first victory in the 2026 IPL season, KKR must chase down 156 runs within 20 overs to earn two vital points and maintain their chances for the playoffs.
Rajasthan Royals' Batting Performance
After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals chose to bat first. The opening pair consisted of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Vaibhav Arora started strongly, allowing only 6 runs in his first over.
Sooryavanshi found his rhythm in the subsequent over, hitting two boundaries off Kartik Tyagi. Cameron Green countered with a disciplined over, giving away just one boundary and four dot balls.
Sooryavanshi continued to excel, scoring 15 runs off Arora's second over, including three well-placed fours. He maintained his momentum, hitting a six off KKR's leading spinner, Sunil Narine, who later responded effectively with five consecutive dot balls.
By the end of the power-play, the Royals had reached 63 runs without losing a wicket, despite Green conceding 22 runs in the final over.
KKR's Bowling Attack Turns the Tide
Following the power-play, KKR tightened their bowling, allowing only 16 runs in the next two overs. The pressure resulted in a breakthrough in the 8th over when Chakravarthy dismissed the aggressive Sooryavanshi for 46, marking his 200th T20 wicket.
Dhruv Jurel then came to the crease but was quickly dismissed by Chakravarthy for just 5 runs, falling victim to a sharp stumping by Tim Seifert after attempting a reverse sweep.
Narine followed suit, claiming the crucial wicket of Jaiswal, who scored 39 runs, and brought Shimron Hetmyer to the crease.
The situation worsened for RR as Chakravarthy took out skipper Riyan Parag, who struggled to find his form.
KKR's bowling attack caused a dramatic collapse, with RR slipping from 81 runs without loss to 124 for 5. Narine concluded his spell by dismissing Donovan Ferreira for 7 runs.
In the 19th over, Tyagi delivered a devastating blow by taking out Ravindra Jadeja, Shimron Hetmyer, and Ravi Bishnoi in quick succession.
Arora capped off the innings by conceding just 9 runs in the final over, leaving RR at 155 for 9.
