KKR Aims for Improvement After Winless Start in IPL 2026
KKR Attributes Slow Start to Luck and Missed Chances
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fast bowler Kartik Tyagi has pointed to a combination of bad luck and missed opportunities as reasons for his team's sluggish performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Ahead of their upcoming match against the Gujarat Titans (GT), Tyagi emphasized the necessity for enhanced intent and consistency. During a pre-match press briefing, he expressed disappointment over the team's inability to secure victories in closely contested matches, stating, "We haven't won a game yet, and it’s disheartening for the entire team. We need to improve our approach moving forward."
Pathirana Set to Miss Upcoming Match
The franchise has announced that Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana will not participate in the next match despite having received his No Objection Certificate (NOC). The team is currently addressing logistical challenges related to his travel arrangements. A spokesperson mentioned, "We have the NOC for Matheesha Pathirana, but he won't be available for tomorrow's game. We will keep everyone updated on his situation."
Tyagi Discusses Injury Recovery and Teammate Support
Kartik Tyagi shared insights into his recovery from shin splints, which had hindered his performance. He explained that the injury compelled him to adjust his bowling technique and approach. "I faced recurring shin splints whenever I attempted to return to play, so I took a year off to understand the issue. I modified my run-up and focused on becoming a more effective bowler," he noted. Tyagi also expressed his commitment to continuous improvement at the elite level.
Regarding teammate Varun Chakravarthy's struggles in IPL 2026, Tyagi offered his support, acknowledging that every cricketer experiences challenging phases. He remarked, "Every player goes through a rough patch, but overcoming these challenges ultimately makes you a better bowler."
