Record-Breaking Performances by KIIT Athletes

At the Khelo India University Games 2025, held at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology's Samardeep Singh Gill set a new All India University (AIU) record in men's Shot Put. Additionally, Isha Chander Prakash in women's Heptathlon and the men's 4x100m relay team also surpassed existing meet records on the final day of athletics events.

This year's KIUG 2025 is taking place across seven cities in Rajasthan, featuring 4,448 athletes from 222 universities competing in 23 medal events. The Games are organized by the Sports Authority of India in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and hosted by Poornima University.

With only one day remaining, Chandigarh University has solidified its position at the top of the medals table, amassing 41 medals after winning seven golds in Canoe and Kayaking, according to a press release from SAI Media. The athletics events have seen a total of 12 new records established over four days.

Samardeep, who has triumphed over two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor multiple times this year, achieved a remarkable shot put distance of 19.42m on his second attempt, securing the gold medal. Aniket from Guru Kashi University finished second with a throw of 18.08m.

Previously holding the AIU record at 18.76m and the KIUG record at 18.75m, Samardeep has consistently thrown over 19 meters this year. "I aimed to perform well for my university while pursuing my Master's in Physical Education. Despite an ankle injury prior to the event, I am pleased with my performance here," stated the 24-year-old, who recorded a personal best of 19.82m at the National Inter-State Championships in Chennai earlier this year.

Teammate Isha Chander Prakash also made headlines by breaking the KIUG heptathlon record with a score of 4857, surpassing the previous record by 109 points. She had established a significant lead after the first four events on Wednesday and maintained it on Thursday. The former record was held by Sonu Kumari from Lovely Professional University.

Olympian Animesh Kujur capped off the competition for KIIT by leading his team to a new 4x100m meet record with a time of 40.09 seconds. Mahatma Gandhi University, who won silver, matched the previous KIUG record of 40.76 seconds, which was held by Mangalore University.

They concluded the competition with a total of 23 golds, one silver, and one bronze. Guru Kashi University followed as the second-best team, earning three golds, one silver, and three bronzes.
