Khelo India Beach Games 2025 Wraps Up
The inaugural Khelo India Beach Games 2025, held in Diu, concluded on Saturday, with five states—Manipur, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir—each securing five gold medals. The final rankings were determined by the number of silver medals won, according to an official announcement.
Manipur topped the standings with six silver medals, surpassing Maharashtra by one and Nagaland by three. Notably, this marked Nagaland's first appearance in the top three of a Khelo India event. Both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir shared the fourth position, each earning one silver medal. The host state, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (DNHDD), finished seventh with four golds but fell short of Delhi, which secured sixth place with two silvers.
The outcome of the Khelo India Beach Games 2025 was significantly influenced by the performance in pencak silat, a martial art from Indonesia that has gained traction in India. Out of the 46 gold medals available, 28 were awarded in this discipline. Manipur claimed four of its five golds in pencak silat, while Maharashtra, Nagaland, Jammu and Kashmir, and DNHDD also excelled in this category.
On Friday night, the finals for popular team sports such as beach volleyball, beach soccer, and beach sepak takraw took place. Tamil Nadu dominated the volleyball events, while the soccer and sepak takraw matches provided thrilling entertainment.
The Nagaland women's team made history by winning the gold in the sepak takraw quad regu event at Ghoghla Beach. They triumphed over Haryana with a score of 2-1 in a nail-biting final. The men's gold was claimed by Delhi, who defeated Manipur 2-1.
"It was an intense final. Haryana played exceptionally well, but fortune smiled upon us, and we managed to secure the win," expressed a delighted Kethosituo Sekhose, Chef de Mission of Nagaland, to SAI Media. He added, "This team will now prepare for future competitions, and we hope some will be selected for the national team. Overall, Nagaland's performance has been commendable, with nearly everyone earning a medal."
A total of 249 athletes participated in the sepak takraw events.
The beach soccer competition was equally competitive, featuring 166 players out of 811 participants in the KIBG 2025. Matches were held under the lights at the picturesque Ghoghla Beach, drawing enthusiastic crowds.
