Pietersen Takes on Mentorship Role

London: Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has been appointed as a specialist mentor for the national white-ball teams as they gear up for the ICC Cricket World Cup scheduled in Africa next year.

Pietersen will join head coach Brendon McCullum's team for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka later this month, collaborating with a coaching staff that includes Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, and Sarah Taylor.

His involvement will extend to the white-ball tours in Australia and South Africa this winter, and he will also participate in the home series against Pakistan and New Zealand next summer, culminating in the World Cup.

"I am incredibly proud to assist this team in their quest to secure a World Cup victory in South Africa. Wearing the England jersey again after 2014 is a significant honor and a deeply meaningful moment," Pietersen expressed in a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

"We possess a remarkably talented white-ball squad, and I am eager to work diligently with these players to help them reach their full potential. Being part of Brendon’s strategic team over the next year is an exciting opportunity, and I can’t wait to begin this journey."

Throughout his 10-year international career, Pietersen played 136 ODIs and 37 T20 matches for England, amassing over 5,500 runs, in addition to scoring 8,181 runs in 104 Test matches.

He previously served as a mentor for the Delhi Capitals during the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Having been raised in South Africa, Pietersen's insights will be particularly beneficial for the ODI team as they prepare for the World Cup, which will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

England's white-ball head coach McCullum remarked, "I hold great respect for KP and his contributions to the sport. His influence on English cricket has been remarkable, so having someone of his caliber willing to engage with this team is a tremendous advantage.
