Kapil Dev's Insights on Shubman Gill's Captaincy

New Delhi, July 26: Kapil Dev, the former Indian cricket captain and renowned all-rounder, has shared his thoughts on Shubman Gill's role as captain during the ongoing Test series against England, named after legends Anderson and Tendulkar.

This marks Gill's debut as India's Test captain, with the team currently trailing 2-1 in the series.

Kapil Dev remarked, “This is a fresh team, and they are being given opportunities. In the future, these players will achieve success. Forming a new team requires time for adaptation. As a new captain, Gill will gain invaluable experience. This series will serve as a significant learning opportunity,” he stated during a media interaction.

Despite India's struggles in the Fourth Test, Gill has showcased impressive batting skills.

He has accumulated 671 runs across four matches, boasting an average of 95.85 and a strike rate of 71.00. His performance includes three centuries and one half-century, with a top score of 269, making him the leading run-scorer in the current Anderson-Tendulkar Test series.

After facing early setbacks in their second innings of the Fourth Test, India is still in a challenging position, having conceded a massive 669 runs in England's first innings, resulting in a 311-run lead for the hosts.

The Indian second innings began poorly, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudarshan dismissed for ducks. However, K L Rahul and Captain Shubman Gill steadied the innings with a remarkable partnership of 174 runs.

As Day 4 concluded, India stood at 174/2, trailing England by 137 runs. If the Indian team manages to salvage the match on the final day, it would be considered a significant achievement.
