Josh Inglis to Miss Part of IPL 2026 Season for Wedding
Josh Inglis' IPL Commitment Amid Wedding Plans
Josh Inglis, the wicketkeeper-batter from Australia, has been acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants for ₹8.6 crore during the IPL 2026 mini-auction. However, he has announced that he will be unavailable for a portion of the season due to his wedding scheduled for early April. The IPL is set to take place from March 26 to May 31, according to reports.
Unexpected Auction Outcome
Inglis expressed surprise at being selected in the auction, given his limited availability. Initially, he went unsold, and he only learned of his purchase after waking up to messages. He shared, "I watched a lot of the auction and felt I was lower in the priority list. With my wedding in early April, I didn't expect to be picked. When I saw my name go unsold, I thought, 'Alright, I'm going to bed.' I woke up to find out I had been bought after seeing some messages this morning."
Intense Bidding and Coaching Reunion
Despite his previous coach at Punjab Kings, Ricky Ponting, suggesting that Inglis would be partially available, a bidding war ensued during the auction. Ultimately, the Lucknow Super Giants outbid Sunrisers Hyderabad to secure his services, marking a reunion with Justin Langer, with whom he previously collaborated at the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
Inglis' Performance in IPL and T20
Inglis had a notable debut season in the IPL, playing for Punjab Kings, where he scored 278 runs in 11 innings, averaging 30.88 with a strike rate of 162.57. His standout performance included a crucial 73 runs off 42 balls against the Mumbai Indians, led by Jasprit Bumrah, in Jaipur. Across his T20 career, Inglis has accumulated 3,853 runs in 152 innings, maintaining an average of 29.86 and a strike rate just under 150.
