John Cena's Final WWE Match Set Against Gunther in December 2025
John Cena's Retirement Match Details
During a recent red carpet event for his film "Heads of State," John Cena shared insights about his impending retirement from wrestling. He confirmed that his last match is scheduled for mid-December, although the venue remains unannounced. Cena did not reveal any details regarding his final opponent.
According to a recent update from a wrestling news source, Cena's last opponent will be Gunther, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion from the Monday Night Raw roster. Gunther recently retained his title against Goldberg in a retirement match for the WCW legend, marking a significant moment in his career.
Currently, Cena is set to defend his WWE Title against Cody Rhodes, the King of the Ring winner, at SummerSlam 2025, taking place at MetLife Stadium on August 3rd. Gunther's opponent for this event has yet to be disclosed, but he will enter SummerSlam as the champion.
Limited Appearances Before SummerSlam
As of July, John Cena has been largely absent from WWE programming due to his film commitments. His last appearance was at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia, where he successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against CM Punk. Cena's next scheduled appearance will be on the July 18 episode of SmackDown, where he will confront Rhodes.
Following that, Cena will appear again on the August 1 episode of SmackDown, which serves as the final show before SummerSlam. This means he will only make two appearances leading up to the summer event. Currently, he is busy filming the Netflix movie "Little Brother" alongside Eric André in New Jersey.
Beginning his retirement tour in January 2025, Cena committed to working only 36 dates with WWE throughout the year, leaving him with 15 dates remaining. Besides SummerSlam, he is also confirmed to compete at the Crown Jewel event in Australia this October.
