Jeongwoo Ham's Wire-to-Wire Victory

In a thrilling conclusion at the Singapore Open presented by The Business Times, Jeongwoo Ham from Korea secured a wire-to-wire victory on Sunday at The Serapong, Sentosa Golf Club. Despite facing stiff competition from the talented Australian Cameron John, Ham managed to clinch the title with a final round score of three-under-par 68, finishing at 16-under overall, two shots ahead of John. This victory also earned both players spots in the upcoming Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.


Top Indian Performers

Pukhraj Singh Gill and Gaganjeet Bhullar emerged as the highest-ranked Indians, both tying for 26th place with a total score of 4-under 280. Gill's rounds of 71, 70, 72, and 67 showcased his talent, while Bhullar's scores of 67, 68, 72, and 73 reflected his consistent performance.


Weather Disruptions Impact Play

The day was marked by significant weather changes, with oppressive heat giving way to thunderstorms. Play was halted at 11:47 AM for over three hours due to lightning, resuming at 3:30 PM.


Gill's Remarkable Final Round

Young golfer Pukhraj Singh Gill, who received an invitation from The International Series, made a remarkable leap from Tied-45 to Tied-26 with a final round of 67. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "This was my first International Series event, and I made the most of it." Gill's performance included birdies on the 11th, 14th, and 18th holes, along with two additional birdies on the back nine.


Bhullar's Struggles on Final Day

In contrast, Gaganjeet Bhullar faced challenges, finishing with a 2-over 73. After consistently placing in the top six throughout the tournament, he struggled with four bogeys and a double bogey, although he ended on a high note with two birdies in the final holes.


Ham's Victory Sealed After Delay

Starting the day with a four-shot lead, Ham maintained his advantage despite the weather interruptions. He secured his victory on the par-five 18th hole, reaching the green in two and two-putting for birdie, while John made par. Ham remarked on the heat, saying, "I just kept thinking: play quickly, get through it, and get back to the hotel as soon as possible." This win marks Ham as the second Korean to triumph in this event, following Younghan Song's victory in 2016.


John's Achievement in Open Qualification

Cameron John, finishing second, expressed his excitement about qualifying for The Open, stating, "It's an unbelievable feeling. I've wanted to play in Major championships my whole life." His performance solidified his status as one of Australia's promising young golfers.


Other Notable Performances

Karandeep Kochhar was the other Indian to make the cut, finishing in 70th place with a score of 11-over 295 after a round of 5-over 76.
