Jemimah Rodrigues Emphasizes Tactical Flexibility Ahead of T20 World Cup
Jemimah Rodrigues on Role Clarity
Jemimah Rodrigues, a prominent player in the Indian women's cricket team, has expressed her readiness to bat in any position, highlighting the importance of understanding her role within the team.
As the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 approaches, the Indian squad is utilizing the current series against England to refine their lineup. Rodrigues is central to this tactical adaptability, having previously played a key role at No. 3 against formidable teams like Australia and South Africa. In the initial two T20Is against England, she has adjusted her batting position to No. 4 and No. 5, viewing this flexibility as essential for the team's growth.
"I feel comfortable in any batting position. Clarity is crucial for me, and when I understand my role, I can perform effectively. We have several games left to determine the best combination for the team," Rodrigues stated, as reported by the ICC.
Celebrating Yastika Bhatia's Return
India's decision to shift Rodrigues down the order has allowed wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia to gain valuable time at the crease. Bhatia, who has returned to the national team after nearly two years due to injury, significantly enhances the batting strength.
Rodrigues commended Bhatia for her impressive comeback, noting that her performance in her first match back, where she scored 54 runs, showcased the resilience needed after a long absence.
"Yastika has been away due to injury, and this match is crucial for her. Having her back is a tremendous advantage. Her batting in the first game was remarkable, demonstrating her character and determination," remarked Rodrigues.
Rodrigues expressed her contentment with Bhatia's development and the team's ongoing commitment to bolstering their batting lineup. She emphasized the positive mindset of continuous improvement and depth enhancement.
"I am thrilled with her progress and pleased that we are focused on strengthening our batting. This is the mindset we are adopting moving forward," Rodrigues added.
In the series, India Women secured a victory against England by 38 runs in the first match but suffered a 26-run defeat in the second. The final match will take place on Tuesday in Taunton.
