Services Pacer Shines Against Delhi

Jayant Goyat, a fast bowler for Services, emphasized the significance of red-ball cricket after achieving a five-wicket haul against Delhi during their Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match at Palam Stadium. The 21-year-old right-arm fast-medium bowler, who is also part of the Indian Air Force under the Agnipath scheme, took five wickets in Delhi's first innings, helping to dismiss them for 344 runs. Despite his impressive performance, Delhi managed to secure a 78-run lead in the first innings. In response, Services made a strong batting effort, finishing Day 3 at 280/5, with Mohit Ahlawat scoring a resilient 142 and captain Rajat Paliwal remaining not out at 62. Vineet Dhankhar was also at the crease, allowing Services to establish a 202-run lead with five wickets still in hand.

Strategic Approach to the Game

Goyat shared insights into the team's strategy, stating their goal was to limit Delhi's lead and respond effectively with the bat. "Our plan was to restrict them to under a 50-run lead, ideally not exceeding 80 runs. We executed that plan well, got them out quickly, and our batting today reflected that positive intent," Goyat explained.

The Importance of Red-Ball Cricket

The young bowler highlighted the critical nature of Test cricket, calling it the ultimate test of a player's skills and patience. "Red-ball cricket is the primary format. It challenges your patience in every aspect. It remains the true essence of the game and is still vital today," he remarked. As the match approaches its final day, Goyat noted that the approach in white-ball cricket is somewhat similar, requiring bowlers to balance between saving runs and taking wickets.

Support for Agniveer Service Extension

Goyat expressed his support for the Union Cabinet's decision to extend the service of Agniveers by two years under the revised 'Second Tour of Duty' scheme, stating it would enhance their career development opportunities. "This is a positive move. It will significantly aid our growth and career advancement," he stated. Under the new arrangement, 25% of Agniveers will be inducted into the regular Armed Forces based on merit after their initial four-year term, while the remaining 75% can opt for an additional two years. Those who wish to continue after six years will be considered for regular enrollment, subject to selection criteria. This second engagement will also offer increased pay, an improved Seva Nidhi package, and seniority benefits. For Goyat, the ongoing Ranji Trophy season serves as a platform to demonstrate his bowling skills in the longer format while fulfilling his duties in the Indian Air Force.
