Bumrah Achieves Milestone in Fourth Test

Manchester [UK], July 26: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has equaled the record for the most Test wickets by an Indian in England, previously held by the renowned Ishant Sharma.

In the first session of the fourth day of the ongoing Test match between England and India, Bumrah recorded bowling figures of 2 for 112 across 33 overs, claiming the wickets of Jamie Smith and Liam Dawson.

With these two dismissals, Bumrah has now matched Ishant's tally of 51 wickets. The 31-year-old has achieved this in just 12 matches in England, maintaining an impressive average of 26.19, which includes four five-wicket hauls.

In contrast, Ishant Sharma took 51 wickets in 15 Test matches in England, with an average of 33.35 and two five-wicket hauls to his credit.

Earlier on Friday, Bumrah reached the milestone of 50 wickets in England, becoming the third Asian bowler to do so, following Wasim Akram (53) and Ishant Sharma (51).

This achievement came during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy at Old Trafford. Bumrah's statistics now show 50 wickets in 12 matches, with an average of 26.38 and an economy rate of 2.79.

He has also recorded four four-wicket hauls. After the third day of the Test, Bumrah had bowled 15 overs, conceding 48 runs and taking one wicket, bringing his overall figures to 1 for 95 in 28 overs, including his performance from day two.

Despite being the third-highest wicket-taker in the series with 13 wickets in five innings at an average of 26.69, Bumrah's performance is considered modest, especially since he is returning to Test cricket after a lengthy injury hiatus during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, where he took a remarkable 32 wickets at an average of 13.06, including two four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls.
