Sinner's Remarkable Performance at Miami Open

Miami [US], March 25: Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner, currently ranked second in the world, has secured his spot in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open after a thrilling comeback against local favorite Alex Michelsen.

In a match held at Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday, Sinner triumphed over Michelsen with a score of 7-5, 7-6(4). He rallied from a 2-5 deficit in the second set, ultimately winning the tie-break after one hour and 42 minutes of intense play. This victory marks Sinner's impressive streak of 28 consecutive set wins in ATP Masters 1000 events, further extending his record.

“My serve was crucial today, especially during key moments and in the tie-break, so I’m pleased with that,” Sinner remarked, as reported by the ATP's official site.

He acknowledged the need for improvement, stating, “If I want to progress further in this tournament, I must enhance my performance from the back of the court. Tomorrow is a rest day, which will help, and I plan to find my rhythm in practice.”

Sinner expressed satisfaction with his fighting spirit, noting, “The conditions were quite different from last night, and I’m glad I managed to stay competitive. Alex is a tough opponent, so I’m pleased with the outcome.”

During the match, Sinner won an impressive 90% of his points on his first serve and is now set to face 19th seed Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals.

Despite his strong performance, Sinner felt he hadn’t played his best tennis, stating, “I had to find a way to win.” He added, “I understand myself better now, and I know that each day can bring different challenges.”

Michelsen, despite the loss, showcased his talent, breaking Sinner's serve when he was ahead 5-3, keeping the match competitive. Sinner managed to take control in the tie-break, winning six out of the next seven points to clinch the match.

With this victory, Sinner has now achieved a 3-0 head-to-head record against Michelsen. The 24-year-old is also the third player to reach the quarterfinals in each of his first five appearances at the Miami Open, joining the ranks of Yannick Noah and Stefan Edberg.
