Ishan Kishan Joins the 1000-Run Club in ODIs
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has successfully crossed the 1,000-run mark in One Day Internationals (ODIs), making him the fourth fastest Indian to achieve this feat. Kishan reached this milestone during the second ODI against Afghanistan, where he scored an impressive 125 runs off just 79 balls, hitting 14 fours and seven sixes, with a strike rate exceeding 158. This series marks Kishan's return to ODIs, following a brisk 34 runs in the first match, and he has now secured his second ODI century.
Fourth Fastest Indian to Reach 1000 Runs
In his 29 matches and 26 innings, Ishan has accumulated 1,092 runs, boasting an average of 45.50 and a strike rate above 107, including two centuries and seven fifties, with a personal best of 210*. He ranks as the fourth fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in terms of innings, with Shubman Gill holding the record at 19 innings. Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan follow closely at 25 innings, while Navjyot Singh Sidhu and Shreyas Iyer also share the same record. Kishan achieved this milestone in just 966 balls, making him the fifth fastest Indian to do so, with Hardik Pandya leading at 857 balls.
India Sets a Massive Target
In the match, Afghanistan chose to bowl first. Thanks to centuries from captain Shubman Gill (154 runs off 110 balls, including 22 fours and two sixes) and Ishan Kishan (125 runs off 79 balls), India posted a formidable total of 402 all out in 49.5 overs. Nangeyaliya Kharoti (4 wickets for 76 runs) and Rashid Khan (3 wickets for 48 runs) were the standout bowlers for Afghanistan. To level the series, Afghanistan now needs to chase down a target of 403 runs.
