Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Stellar Performance Leads Rajasthan Royals to Victory
Sooryavanshi's Strategic Approach Shines in IPL Match
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India] - May 20: Young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals (RR) shared that his deliberate start during the innings against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was a calculated decision, leveraging his capability to score boundaries and sixes effortlessly.
His strategy was to maintain a steady pace, avoiding haste, and to guide the team to a successful finish, ultimately achieving a rapid fifty.
Sooryavanshi's explosive 93, complemented by significant contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel, propelled RR to a seven-wicket triumph in their IPL encounter against LSG on Tuesday night in Jaipur.
“That was my mindset. I know I can hit two or three boundaries or sixes at any moment, so I can afford to take my time and not rush, aiming to carry the game to the end,” Sooryavanshi remarked post-match.
He emphasized his focus on pacing his innings rather than hurrying, carefully observing the pitch, and aiming to bat longer to support his teammate at the other end.
“I was contemplating while watching from the sidelines during the bowling innings, and the wicket appeared favorable. I thought today I shouldn’t rush at the start; I should take my time, and if I bat longer, it will benefit the batter at the other end as well,” he added.
Sooryavanshi's remarkable innings of 93 came off just 38 balls, featuring 10 sixes and 7 fours, while Jurel added a brisk 53 off 38 balls, including 6 sixes and 3 fours. This victory has elevated RR to the fourth position in the IPL points table with 14 points.
The teenage sensation has now become the youngest player to amass 500 runs in a single IPL season, breaking the previous record held by Rishabh Pant, who achieved this milestone at the age of 20 for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2018.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the stand-in captain for RR, commended the team's collective effort in securing the win, noting the strong bowling displays from Jofra Archer and Brijesh Sharma, along with the impactful batting from Sooryavanshi and Jurel.
He stated, “I believe everyone put in tremendous effort and played exceptionally well. Everyone was engaged in the game and working towards our goal. The way Jofra bowled and Brijesh bowled was impressive, especially knowing the wicket was good for scoring. Jofra's comeback during the power play was remarkable. The way Vaibhav and Dhruv batted was phenomenal, effectively sealing the game.”
