Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], April 25: In a thrilling display of batting, 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored a remarkable century, while Dhruv Jurel contributed a solid half-century, propelling Rajasthan Royals to a total of 228 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday.
To secure their fifth victory of the season, RR must defend a target of 229 runs, while SRH aims to achieve the same milestone. Sooryavanshi's explosive innings of 103 runs off just 37 balls, featuring five fours and an impressive twelve sixes, alongside Jurel's 51 runs from 35 balls, which included eight fours and a six, formed a formidable partnership of 112 runs. Donovan Ferreira also made a notable contribution with a quick 33 runs off 13 balls, helping RR reach a commendable score.
After SRH chose to bowl first, Sooryavanshi quickly made amends for his previous golden duck against Praful Hinge by hitting four consecutive sixes in the opening over.
Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted to join the scoring spree but fell to Eshan Malinga, caught by Heinrich Klaasen after scoring 10 runs off 8 balls, leaving RR at 40 for 1 in just 2.2 overs.
Jurel took on Pat Cummins in the fourth over, hitting two fours and helping RR reach 50 runs in four overs, while Sooryavanshi continued to dominate, scoring a four and a six against Eshan in the fifth over.
Sooryavanshi reached his half-century in just 15 balls, hitting a four and a six against Sakib Hussain in the final over of the powerplay, with RR concluding the first six overs at 76 for 1.
With spinner Shivang Kumar brought into the attack, Sooryavanshi and Jurel kept the momentum going, adding 16 runs, including a six each. A straight six from Sooryavanshi helped RR cross the 100-run mark in the ninth over.
By the end of the tenth over, RR stood at 112 for 1, with Sooryavanshi on 76* and Jurel on 25*.
Sooryavanshi continued his assault, hitting two fours and a six in the 11th over, while Jurel reached his third fifty of the tournament in the next over, scoring 61 runs off 35 balls, including eight fours and a six.
The partnership was finally broken by Nitish, who dismissed Jurel, leaving RR at 152 for 2 in 12.4 overs.
Sooryavanshi then smashed Sakib for a six, a four, and another six in the 14th over, achieving his second IPL century in just 36 balls, before being dismissed for 103 runs off 37 balls, leaving RR at 170 for 3.
Donovan Ferreira and captain Riyan Parag continued the innings, but Parag was dismissed for 7 runs off 9 balls by Cummins, reducing RR to 191 for 4 in 16.1 overs.
In the 18th over, Ferreira hit Sakib for a six, a four, and another six, bringing RR past the 200-run mark. However, Ferreira's innings ended shortly after, caught by Klaasen off Eshan's bowling for 33 runs off 16 balls. RR concluded their innings at 228 for 6, with Jofra Archer (2*) and Ravindra Jadeja (4*) remaining not out.
Eshan Malinga was the standout bowler for SRH, taking 2 wickets for 38 runs, while Cummins, Hinge, Sakib, and Nitish each claimed a wicket, with Sakib conceding 62 runs in his spell.
