Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shatters T20 Records with IPL Century
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Makes History in T20 Cricket
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], April 25: In a remarkable display of talent, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) has become the youngest and fastest player to achieve 1,000 runs in T20 cricket following his explosive second IPL century.
During a thrilling match against another playoff hopeful, Sooryavanshi dominated the bowlers, scoring 103 runs off just 37 balls, which included five fours and an impressive 12 sixes, achieving a strike rate of 278.38.
At just 15 years old, he is the youngest player to reach the 1,000-run milestone in T20s and did so in the fewest balls—only 473—surpassing Australian talent Mitchell Owen (533 balls) and the late Andrew Symonds (558 balls).
Sooryavanshi accomplished this feat in his 26th innings, making him the fourth-fastest player to reach 1,000 T20 runs, with Australian cricketers Brad Hodge and Shaun Marsh holding the record at 23 innings.
Among the 1,069 players who have scored 1,000 runs in T20 cricket, Sooryavanshi stands out as the only one with a strike rate exceeding 200, currently at 212.2.
Additionally, he is the first uncapped player to hit two centuries in the IPL.
His half-century came in just 15 balls, marking his third IPL fifty in 15 balls or fewer, surpassing Jake Fraser McGurk of Australia, who achieved two such fifties in the 2024 season with the Delhi Capitals.
With his 12 sixes, Sooryavanshi has surpassed the previous record of 11 sixes set by Murali Vijay of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against the same team back in 2010.
This season, Sooryavanshi has amassed 357 runs in eight innings, averaging 44.62 with a strike rate of 234.86, including one century and two fifties, currently holding the Orange Cap for the most runs.
As RR aims to defend a total of 229 runs for their fifth win of the season, Sooryavanshi (103 runs off 37 balls) and Dhruv Jurel (51 runs off 35 balls) formed a formidable partnership of 112 runs. A late surge from Donovan Ferreira (33 runs off 13 balls) helped RR reach a commendable score.
Eshan Malinga was the standout bowler for SRH, taking 2 wickets for 38 runs, while Pat Cummins, Praful Hinge, Sakib Hussain, and Nitish Kumar Reddy each claimed a wicket, although Sakib conceded 62 runs in his spell.
