CSK Triumphs with Urvil Patel's Explosive Half-Century

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - On May 10, Urvil Patel delivered an extraordinary performance, achieving the joint-fastest half-century in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, propelling the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a decisive five-wicket win against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

In pursuit of a daunting target of 204 runs, CSK's captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson ignited the innings with a swift 11 runs off Mohammed Shami's opening over, followed by 15 runs from Prince Yadav's over.

Digvesh Singh Rathi entered the bowling attack in the fourth over, where Samson greeted him with a four and a six before being dismissed on the fourth delivery. Samson scored 28 runs off 14 balls, including three fours and two sixes.

Patel then took to the crease, starting with a single before unleashing a barrage of sixes against Avesh Khan in the following over.

Rathi returned to bowl, and Patel continued his assault, hitting four consecutive boundaries, comprising three sixes and a four.

Patel then faced Shami, hitting another six and completing his half-century with a single on the last ball of the over. He dedicated this remarkable achievement to his father, revealing a note that read, 'This is for you, Papa' during his celebration.

Patel's record fifty came in just 13 balls, tying him with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the fastest IPL fifty.

Shahbaz Ahmed eventually dismissed Patel in the ninth over, with Patel scoring 65 runs off just 23 balls, featuring eight sixes and two fours.

Gaikwad remained steady, contributing 42 runs off 28 balls before departing in the 13th over.

With 39 runs required in the final five overs, Rathi bowled a crucial 16th over, allowing only four runs and taking the wicket of Dewald Brevis.

Avesh Khan dismissed Akshat Raghuwanshi (18 off 18 balls) on the first ball of the next over, conceding just five runs, while Prince Yadav allowed nine runs in the following over, leaving CSK needing 21 runs in the last two overs.

Prashant Veer hit a six in Avesh's next over, scoring 11 runs, which set up a tense final over with LSG needing to defend 10 runs.

With two left-handed batsmen at the crease, LSG captain Rishabh Pant handed the ball to Aiden Markram, who started with a couple of wides. Shivam Dube then finished the match in style with two sixes, leading CSK to victory with five wickets and four balls remaining.

Earlier, LSG batted first, posting 203/8. They began aggressively, with Josh Inglis scoring 16 runs in the opening over bowled by Akeal Hosein. By the end of three overs, LSG had reached 40 without losing a wicket, with Inglis leading the charge.

They crossed the 50-run mark in the fourth over, marking their joint-fastest team fifty in IPL history. Inglis completed his half-century in just 17 balls, making it the fastest fifty at Chepauk.

CSK's Anshul Kamboj provided the breakthrough by dismissing Mitchell Marsh for 10 runs, breaking the 77-run opening partnership.

After six overs, LSG was at 91/1, but the momentum shifted when Noor Ahmad dismissed Nicholas Pooran for just one run.

Jamie Overton then struck twice, removing both Josh Inglis (85 off 33 balls) and Rishabh Pant (15), leaving LSG at 117/4 after 10 overs.

LSG's innings continued to falter after a mix-up led to Aiden Markram's run-out for six runs, further diminishing their momentum.

Overton struck again in the 15th over, dismissing Akshat Raghuwanshi for 18 runs, leaving LSG at 147/6.

In the end, Himmat Singh (17 off 12 balls) and Shahbaz Ahmed's unbeaten 43 off 25 balls helped LSG reach 203/8 in their 20 overs.

For CSK, Jamie Overton (3/36), Anshul Kamboj (2/47), and Noor Ahmad (1/24) were the standout bowlers.

This victory propelled CSK to fifth place with six wins in 11 matches, while LSG remained at the bottom of the points table with six points from 11 matches.
