Tilak Varma's Record-Breaking Performance

In a thrilling match on April 20, 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Tilak Varma of the Mumbai Indians (MI) made headlines by scoring a remarkable century against the Gujarat Titans (GT). This achievement marked him as the joint-fastest centurion for the franchise, matching the legendary Sanath Jayasuriya's record.

At just 23 years and 163 days old, Tilak also became the youngest player to reach this milestone for the Mumbai Indians.

He finished his innings with an impressive 101 runs off only 45 balls, equaling Jayasuriya's record of a 45-ball century set during the IPL 2008 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Following Tilak and Jayasuriya, Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav also feature in the list of fastest centuries for MI, with Green scoring in 47 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023, and Yadav achieving his century in 49 balls against GT at the same venue.

Tilak's first IPL century propelled the Mumbai Indians to a formidable total of 199/5 against the Gujarat Titans.

Coming in at number five, Tilak entered the game after Suryakumar Yadav's dismissal, with MI struggling at 46/3 in just 5.5 overs.

By the 10th over, he and Naman Dhir had stabilized the innings, bringing the score to 75/3. However, the partnership was broken in the 13th over when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Dhir, who scored a quick 45 off 32 balls.

Following this, Tilak accelerated his scoring, smashing 26 runs in the 18th over bowled by Ashok Sharma, which included three sixes and four fours.

In the final over, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, he added another 22 runs, hitting two sixes and two boundaries. With just one ball left and needing four runs for his century, he executed a cross-batted shot to deep square leg, securing his maiden IPL century.
